No need to nerf robbing. When you look at the Law as it is now, the robbers screwed.

The robbing ALREADY nerfed though. Trying to see if we can bring it back in some type of form.

Under normal circumstances, Quin, your idea would be a good one. Only problem is, I don't think many people would agree to simply accepting defeat and logging off like a whipped dog, and I doubt more that it would be preferred over looting rules for that matter.

Hypothetically, Quin, some newb runs up to you, RP's that he doesn't like how you're standing there eyeballing him, he attacks, you, because you're not ready for a fight, get utterly owned in the process. Not saying you would, and hopefully you won't draw offense to this example, but simply put, would you really accept just getting your items and logging off? Or would you rather regear, get ready, and go show the newbie who's boss?

That's not saying the idea doesn't have potential. But who's to monitor it? Will you set up a system so that, after the dead person returns to get his things, yet refuses to leave and attacks, the killer makes SS and uploads? It'd be almost impossible to control, and not very favourable, especially considering if its your favourite character, and you don't have any others.

I agree with Raven, shockingly, that - as his example states - killer ganks law guy, can only loot gold/gems. Law guy comes back and ganks killer.

If Looting Rules are to be applied, it should not be made in absolutes. No "One Rule" for all situations.

Example: IF you are a robber, you see victim (a). You halt, initiate RP. Upon looking at this person's dress and such, you determine either for non RP reasons, or physical reasons that your target is a new player, or no possible threat.

In this scenario you may: Demand all of the gold the person is carrying as well as any gems that may be held as well.
-You MUST give a chance for the victim to comply and escape.
-Also you may demand any magical item (not ID'd) excluding cloths, very rare potions, or Locked Chests.
-If your victim decides to attack you, and throws the first strike, you may loot completely if you so choose.
-If victim refuses to hand over demanded items you may initiate attack. If killed, you may take ONLY items you demanded within reason.

You may not: Use your victim's incredulity as provocation to attack/dryloot.
-Use victim's sarcasm or insults as an excuse to attack.
-kill victim's pet (horse, ostard, etc.)
-loot items not demanded (elite yadda yadda of yadda yadda) unless circumstances reflect those mentioned above.
-loot food/bandages/greater heals, anything that may contribute to the victim's survival after the encounter where your demands have been met.

Of coarse, these rules would be adapted to reflect those obviously capable of defending themselves.

Example: The Ancient and Illustrious Jerk Mehoff is dungeon diving, wearing elite Daemon rock plates, elite weapons and cloths. He's just emerging from a particularly loot rich dungeon. You approach, halt, and initiate RP. Either for RP reasons or non RP reasons you determine this person is more than capable of defending themselves, and is certainly not a new person to the area.

You may: Demand that he hand over all (RP'd of coarse) finely crafted equipment, as well as gold, magical items not excluding cloths, locked chests, or other rare highly valuable items.
-You must give a chance for the victim to comply and escape.
-If victim refuses and is killed, you may loot ONLY those items you demanded. If you did not demand magical cloths, and he had Indestructable pants of Macefighting and Magic Reflect with 72 charges, tough shit, you can't take them. Same with jewels, if you didn't demand it, you can't take it.
-Upload SS of the robbery, as well as the Journal marking the items taken. Anyone breaching rules will be severely punished.

You may not: Loot any item, or item type not demanded at the time of the robbery.
-Loot any items that contribute to the survival of the victim after the robbery ie: food, bandages, greater heals.
-Kill pets (horse, ostard, etc.) or attack in any way.
-linger at the site of the robbery.

This sort of thing is far more proper than saying "In all circumstances, robbers can NOT loot anything but gold and jewels. Sorry, Alteran, but that rule is a joke. Adapt the rules as I have outlined.

Geryn you suggest that the robbing should be governed by common sense, do I need to tell you that it won't work? In this case, the only thing that will change is that "Halt! Robbery! Hand over your items." macros will be modified to include a long list of possible item descriptions.

Here is the real problem. Robbers (with few exceptions) do not want to rob people. They don't want to RP, they don't want to interact, they don't want to emote. They just want to kill and dryloot. So whatever rules you put down, they will go through them with the finesse of O.J. Simpson's attorneys, bring together a disgustingly condensed yet passable RP, squeeze that in to a maximum of 3 hotkeys, and start waiting for victims.

This would lead to the victim always refusing and choosing to fight. After all, he has 'nothing to lose' so might as well go down trying - or if lucky, kill and loot the robber instead. Keeping that in mind, if the victim refuses and is killed the robber should be free to loot whatever he wants.

Both of you are missing the big picture. But that does come as no surprise, but it DOES however offer a much better substitute than simply banning robbers to rob only gold or jewels.

Logically, you're trying to justify disallowing robbers to loot anything at all, because you'd much prefer to run around in half a million worth of gear. At the sacrifice of several types of players, or player types, you'd choose your items?

Not to mention, it's very unrp'ish for robbers to know exactly what you have unless they snoop your back pack. So if they say, "hand over your cloths" as long as you're not wearing them, you could hand them non magical items and say "this is all I have."

What's lazy is that even the VICTIMS don't RP half of the time.

And Darian, how does that make it any different?

Simply not true. I would very much like to have them back. I was quite pessimistic last night so I didn't write any suggestions. Here is a simple possible change:

- make characters auto emote when they send out a mayday.
- victim has to emote *sends a bird away* if they call for icq help.

This way you remove robber paranoia that is behind most of the lack of RP. And here is how it can be enforced:

- If the robber still insists on nauseating the victim with poor RP, GMs can revoke all his/her robbing privileges.
- Victim can report an illegal/poorly conducted robbery with no evidence, robber has to provide necessary SS to prove otherwise.
- Robber can report illegal call for help, victim has to provide necessary SS to prove otherwise.

And of course, if our staff is up to it, they can always script a .command that will let the robber search a victim's bag.
