The Awakening

Post by Vaux27 »

The bandages flailed as they were hastily shoved into the backpack, the last item was now packed. Preparations for his course to Ocllo was now set, a short sailing to his destination, the training grounds. The knowledge he once knew had faded, depleted from his previous dormant life of solitude. This renewed faith, a return to what he once believed in was something he now preserved. Revitalizing as it was, he would still need to remind himself of his tactics, channel the strength he once knew growing within. It was in it's purest form, an awakening.

The water glistened the color of his newly acquired holy-titian robe. The ripples from the boat departing in Moonglow were symbolic of his journey, one that begun once more weeks prior. No one could know of his past, as no one knew who he really were. For all his Brothers and Sisters knew, he was a new follower of Esuna's faith. His name forgotten, left in the ruins of the lost lands, perceived as another guard of Luna that had fallen. It was better to keep it this way he thought, to start anew with no presumptions of his name. A now well known surname, one that serves as leadership within the Imperium.

The plank slammed onto the dock of Ocllo, "A'hoy! We're here sir!", the tiller man exclaimed. He kicked the lifeless obsidian and began the pace onto the worn wooden docks. They had seen better days on the edge of the salted ocean, splintered and warped as they were. His path began east towards the exiting of town, as he was greeted by a guard. "In Her name, Brother" he remarked, returned with a salute and slight nod he continued on his way. His goal was to find the inhabited nest of the harpies once more, as the cunning birds offered more of a test than the average man. The path was now worn, a visual aid for the whereabouts, he realized the daily training seemed to be of use than just knowledge of skills

"Halt!" belted the voice of a man from behind. Quickly turning he glanced with disgust, the man was clothed in the color of white. The white coat had some how trampled upon the outskirts of Ocllo, commanding that an Imperial member should halt? "Do not move or you shall die where you stand!" he followed with a tone of defiance and smugness. Tightly grasping his scepter and his thoughts racing, he responded to the white coat. "You dare step foot on Esuna's land?!", as he looked the man up and down. The blood lust was clear at this point, the corruption of years within Lord British's rule had finally taken head. A so called officer of justice was threatening a man, albeit of opposing faith, not for the honor but rather hatred. The circumstances were clear, this would not end without blood spilled...

The steeds carried the combatants as the line was clearly drawn, the guards were alerted of their whereabouts. "Congrego Canonus!", the white coat summoned his men by his side. The Brothers within the Imperium had already arrived however and preparations were futile, the scepters swung mercilessly. It was only a matter of moments, the white coats laid silent upon the somber Ocllo soil. The altercation was over before it had even begun, what they came for was uncertain. He grabbed his belongings that spilled to the ground during the initial quarrel and gathered his thoughts. It was well known the war was a hand before, but until this time he had not seen it with his eyes. The memories of his undying faith rose from within, a stirring begun. Seeing the adversaries he once fought stand long before challenge him to his face was unsettling. His training held a deeper meaning now. Perhaps at last, it was time to speak with Maven. Let him know of his cousin's return, and his true identity...

He glanced down upon the blood stained piece of cloth, a tattered end from a servant's old robe. The cotton was old and poorly woven, the color of what servants of surname families would be subjected to wear. A tear began to well up in his eye, the memory of his loyal acquaintance began to overcome him as he thought to himself. This cloth held a deeper meaning, one that he has carried with him for many years. The cloth belonged to Raoul, a forgotten man in the wars of Luna, that to everyone else died with no remembrance. But not to him, this man was much more than a server and caretaker of his belongings, he was a mentor of life, a father that was clearly absent from his life. He placed the cloth back into his pouch, reaching for his old journal. The dust wiped away from the move of the Vaux manor, revealing his real name Asylin. This name was deceased and written away to him now, as a token of true honor he would keep his alias. The alias of the Vaux family's most loyal servant of nearly two decades, who was renowned by all siblings, but now only commemorated by one. He took out his dagger to scratch away the name, a symbolical action to remove his past. He would start anew, but now it was time to speak with Maven on all of this. It was misguided to keep his cousin in the dark any longer...

His eyes bewildered and unfocused, Maven took a seat in his chair. "Cousin?" he murmured, "But how could this be?". The moment of instance was more than surprising, it was if to him a ghost had walked into his very house. Raoul bowed his head, "Yes Maven, it is I, Asylin". After the great war of Luna, it was thought to be every guard was laid slain before Esuna's land. The migration of the Imperium to Felucca had taken it's toll on many, and the extended family of Vaux were among the many who felt it's burden. Since no word ever came of Asylin's essence, it was presumed he had given his life for Her. As the day turned into night, Raoul and Maven sat and discussed many topics. Why he had taken the name of Raoul now? A man Maven did not know as he was too young to remember his travels to Luna. "He was a father to me, Maven. It's the only way I know of keeping his memory alive". Maven agreed to drop the subject, as his interest was already peaked on why he had returned. Raoul began to ask questions of his own, like how it came to be that a peaceful man of magicka would be involved with the faith of so many? Upon Raoul's return to Felucca, he did not know of Maven's rise to leadership within the Imperium. "A man of the Monastery, leading Her warriors? Interesting to say the least, my cousin" Raoul remarked. "I'm afraid it hasn't been as effortless as it sounds, cousin. My time here in this seat is drawing near it's end." Maven replied quietly. The two continued their conversations and divulged very little, Raoul was now reunited with his family once more. It was then given thought that Raoul was the missing piece, and his resurgence within the Imperium was well timed now. Maybe the now broken dream of Maven's Imperium united under one could progress, but under new leadership...
